Shelf is 7-1/4 inches across the straight edge that meets the wall and 7-1/2 inches tall.
I believe this is an old "Home Interiors" item (Home Interiors was a home party sales organization - much like Mary Kay Cosmetics or Pampered Chef).
It is sturdy and fully intact. It was about to have a new life in a SteamPunk design, but there wasn't enough room for it.
